My Choice: End of the semester evaluation

At the begining of the semester I felt as if  I were not intact and connected with my body. As I have worked on head tail connection, yeild, reach and pull I feel a lot more connected with my body. All the concepts that we have been working on in class have really helped me control my movements. I still have a slight problem in keeping my core intact when I am doing movements, but I am working harder in putting it together. I think this semester I have progressed in my technique.

#8 IMAGERY IN DANCE.

Imagery is one of the most essential learning mechanisms for the body and mind as it relates to dance. Discuss one image you use to execute a dance movement and post a photo to reflect this quality. Identify what in the photo helps to understand the dance principle. You can include more than one idea or photo to represent.

I think that the image of the "C" is a clear way to show the connection of head tail. It shows how the body needs to be almost connected from top to the bottom. You can see how the spine is needed to be curved over and how you need your center to be contracted in. If you use your core it is easier to contract into a head tail position. You need to use head tail connection for a lot of movements in dance. Head tail is a good way to fortify balance when doing all types of movements.

#7 YouTube Challenge

A video that I found was the Dusan Tynek Dance theatre's production of the "Aspian Way" mens trio. I really enjoyed watching it because there movements were big and intact. You can tell that every movement is created from the center of the core. You can tell there was a clean direction on were there arms and legs were going. The whole piece was very fast and you can see they needed a lot of endurance to continue keep the movemnts flowing. Every movement needed to be shifted either first, into or after where as it also involved yielding, push, reach and pull. There was a lot of partner work and lifting involved, most of the time they were running into jumps or different lifts and positions. They used the whole entire space and had unique patters of movement. I noticed they worked really hard into letting each movement ride on the breathe.
